About Us
About Bayside Boykins
Bayside Boykin Spaniels is a small scale family breeding program nestled on the beautiful eastern shore of Mobile Bay in Fairhope, Alabama. We were founded in 2016 after we welcomed home our very first Boykin Spaniel 'Mallie' and our love and passion for the breed started. We pride ourselves in being South Alabama's primere home for exception Boykin Spaniels.
Our dogs are purposefully bred for the hunting family lifestyle weather it be waterfowl hunting, upland hunting, or competitive hunt test/field trials. Our impeccable line of hunting spaniels includes many of the top producing dogs in our breed, as well as some of the only dogs to have titles both in the field and on the bench, guaranteeing our dogs to be both conformationally and intelligently excellent.
The number one goal here at Bayside Boykin Spaniels is to continue to improve, educate, and share the breed that we love so much with the world. We are committed to a very selective breeding program well researched in all aspects of genetics, breeding coefficients, health testing, and breed standards provided by the Boykin Spaniel Society. This includes, but is not limited to Hips, Eyes, Heart and Genetics (EIC, DM, CEA). Our extensive veterinary background allows us to work alongside some of the best in the field to ensure health remains our number one priority, giving future owners lifetime breeder support from a future Veternarian.
Meet Megan Midkiff
Megan was born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay and has called Fairhope home for more than 24 years. At 15 years of age she began shadowing and working as a Veterinary Assistant locally in Baldwin County at multiple veterinary practices. In 2014 she left her beloved home town briefly to pursue a Biological Sciences degree in Microbiology Pre-Vet from Auburn University. During her undergraduate career she continued to simultaneously work part time as a Veterinary Assistant at Village Veterinary Clinic in Auburn, Alabama.
After undergrad, Megan headed abroad to the beautiful island of St. Kitts and Nevis where she is began pursuing her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. She than returned to Auburn for her final year of her Veterinary studies to complete her clinical year at Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine.
In May 2022 she officially became Dr. Megan Midkiff and is currently practicing at Colony Animal Clinic in Fairhope, Alabama with a focus on sports medicne and canine reproduction.
Having lived by the water her entire life on both Mobile Bay and Frigate Bay in St. Kitts, the "Bayside Lifestyle" is something near and dear to her heart, and so she cultivated the kennel name "Bayside Boykin Spaniels."
Megan is very active in the Boykin Spaniel community, being a founding board member to the newly formed Gulf Coast Boykin Spaniel Club created to provide connection, services, education, training, and competition to Boykin Spaniel owners living in Southern Mississippi, South Alabama, and the Panhandle of Florida. Before the formation of the GCBSC she was also member of the Mid-South Boykin Spaniel Retriever Club.
Megan strives to bring a unique aspect to the Boykin Spaniel world being both a veterinarian and avid hunter. Afterall, there is truly nothing like the companionship of having a healthy, purposefully bred dog with you in the blind on a hunt and we hope Bayside Boykins can become part of that family for you.
